Palmer Moderates Panel on Board Oversight of Expansion into Asia

Tom Palmer moderated a recent roundtable discussion on the particular challenges of board oversight of companies hoping to penetrate Asian markets. The event was presented by the Northwest chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). Special guests representing Northwest companies who are doing business in Asia discussed current problems and opportunities with the directors.

According to the NACD, expansion into overseas markets, particularly in Asia, can present a steep learning curve for board members. The roundtable offered NACD members an opportunity to become better acquainted with both the business potential and the characteristic risks of doing business in Asian countries.

Palmer chairs Tonkon Torp’s Corporate Finance practice group and is also a member of the Entrepreneurial Services practice group. He specializes in securities and general corporate matters including public offerings, private placements, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions.

The NACD provides information and insights to help corporate board members confidently navigate business challenges and enhance long-term shareowner value. The Portland chapter hosts regular director roundtable meetings to promote dialogue on a variety of board governance issues. Palmer is a frequent speaker at NACD events.
