Biography:
Mark is chair of the firm's Government Relations and Public Policy Practice Group. A long-time political strategist, corporate executive and trial lawyer, Mark focuses his advocacy practice on providing high-level strategic advice and services to clients with needs at any level of government in the U.S. and Canada. He is based in Portland, but maintains a significant practice in Washington, DC, allowing the firm to expand its presence in that city.
Mark first joined Tonkon Torp in 1983, where he built a significant litigation practice, before leaving to pursue entrepreneurial projects on the East Coast. His litigation clients have included the Portland Trailblazers, technology firms, real estate developers, financial institutions, major retail and consumer companies, franchise firms, manufacturers, distributors, media companies and professional firms.
As an entrepreneur, Mark founded marketing firms in New York, and led the buyout of a glass manufacturing company in Pennsylvania. As president of AWI, Inc., a large government lottery software system and manufacturing firm in Atlanta, he introduced AWI to new government markets in the U.S. and Canada. He also was responsible for a substantial outside legal and lobbying budget and initiatives in more than twenty states and provinces.
A former special assistant to the governor of Oregon, Mark most recently practiced as a partner in the Washington, DC office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, representing a wide range of private and public clients before Congress and the Executive Branch, in particular the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
