Vanessa Lee Gebbie

Biography:

Vanessa is an associate in the firm's business department and information security and privacy sub-practice group.

In her transactional and corporate practice, Vanessa regularly assists businesses with respect to security offerings, acquisitions and divestitures, drafting and negotiating contracts, corporate governance and other general business matters. 

Vanessa also assists businesses with drafting website privacy policies and information security policies and reviewing existing policies for compliance with such laws as the Federal Trade Commission Act, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA"), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act ("HITECH") and the Oregon Identity Theft Protection Act, among others.

Representative clients include The Greenbrier Companies, Inc., NIKE, M Financial Group and an international communication device manufacturer.

Prior to joining the firm, Vanessa volunteered at the Lewis & Clark Small Business Clinic and served as the Interim Operations Manager while also conducting pro bono legal work involving analysis of the Federal Trade Commission's Red Flags Rule.

Vanessa earned her J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School, during which time she completed a judicial externship for the Honorable Robert E. Jones at the U.S. District Court, District of Oregon and served as a teaching assistant for Legal Analysis and Writing. 

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Vanessa worked for eight years as a biologist and wetland scientist, assisting private developers and utility companies with environmental regulation compliance, natural resource planning and habitat conservation and restoration.

In her personal time, Vanessa enjoys traveling, snowboarding, music and yoga.
