Biography:
Lynda Hartzell is a partner at Tonkon Torp LLP and is a senior member of its labor and employment group.
Throughout her legal career, Lynda has focused her practice on representing employers and management in all areas of employment law. She develops relationships and understands her clients' businesses in order to maximize the effectiveness of the legal services rendered. She strongly encourages proactive management practices over litigation and has built a very strong advice and counsel practice. When clients are faced with legal claims, Lynda is an exceptional advocate, but supports dispute resolution and is known as a tough negotiator. She has extensive federal, state, agency and appellate court experience in the states of Oregon and Washington, and has appeared in courts in other states.
As the lead counsel in Oregon's first fully litigated case involving medical marijuana, Lynda is known state-wide for her expertise in disability laws. Her expertise however is broader, and includes:
- Family and Medical Leave laws (state and federal levels)
- Discrimination, harassment and retaliation (state and federal levels)
- Wage and hour laws (state and federal levels)
- WARN Act
- Employment contract law
- Wrongful discharge
- Employer reinstatement and reemployment obligations

She regularly conducts seminars and training for clients. Her clients include businesses with union and non-union employees and cover a variety of industries, including but not limited to, hospitals, health care, pet hospitals, construction, automotive, newspaper, timber, software, film and movie production, food production, grocery, energy, printing and graphics, consulting businesses, financial investment services, non-profits, distilleries, and wineries.
Lynda is a speaker/presenter at various industry and employment law seminars and an occasional instructor at Portland State University and the Bureau of Labor and Industry.
