Biography:

Ken is a founding partner of Tonkon Torp.  His practice emphasizes corporate and securities matters, including the financial services industry.  He has extensive experience in various forms of debt and equity financings, take-over contests and in the secondary securities markets.  Recent projects include representing issuers and underwriters in public offerings, acquisitions and divestitures, corporate investigations, shareholder disputes and deadlocks, formation of domestic and international joint ventures and consulting in securities litigation.

 

Ken has been recognized as a leading corporate and banking lawyer by Super Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America® and Chambers USA America's Leading Lawyers for Business directories.  He was named Portland, Oregon's 2011 Lawyer of the Year for Corporate Law by Best Lawyers.  Only a single lawyer in each specialty area is honored with this recognition each year.

 

In 2010, Ken played a lead role in the resolution of the Sunwest Management Bankruptcy, which culminated in a $1.2 billion deal involving the sale of 140 senior living properties in 39 states. For his work on Sunwest, he received the Large Company Turnaround Transaction of the Year award from the Turnaround Management Association in 2011.

 

Ken served as assistant counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs in connection with its Securities Industry Study.  He has frequently served on the firm's managing board since the firm's inception in 1974, including several terms as chairman.
