Biography:

James represents local and national businesses in a wide range of matters. He counsels clients on issues involving mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, entity formation and structure, contract drafting and negotiation, and other general business matters. He also has experience in real estate transactions including purchases, sales, and leases of commercial properties. Having begun his career in Tonkon Torp's litigation department, James has resolved numerous business disputes, representing clients in trials, arbitration proceedings, and settlement negotiations.

 

James regularly represents pro bono clients from the Southeast Legal Clinic. He also helped form the Portland chapter of Minds Matter, a national nonprofit dedicated to educating, mentoring, and securing college acceptances for highly motivated high school students with limited financial means.

 

James began his career at Tonkon Torp as a summer associate in 2004. In 2003, he completed a judicial internship with The Honorable R. William Riggs, Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. In law school, he was the editor-in-chief of the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review and played in an 8-ball pool league each week. James is the only Duck he knows  who double-majored in math and French. He spent his junior year studying abroad at the University of Bristol in England.

 

An Oregon native, James is an avid bike commuter. He enjoys camping, hiking, and being outdoors, and he was married in Yosemite National Park.
